Flooring types
CARPET
There are many reasons to chose carpets, whether it be for sound insulation, energy savings, comfort or even because you require
a non-slip floor surface. We have a full range of all carpet types, from durable, short dense fibre to luxurious pure wool carpets. We are sure to have the carpet you are looking for, but remember, if you have seen a carpet elsewhere, the chances are I can source it cheaper.
WOOD
Wood flooring is mostly split into two categories, Solid flooring and Engineered wood. Solid flooring is made from single pieces of machined timber whereas engineered flooring consists of a strip of solid wood glued to a panel of either plywood or fibreboard. Both have ease of maintenance and resistance to wear and are arguably the most durable of floor coverings. It may depend on budget which you chose but both are definitely a long term decision.
INDUSTRIAL
Industrial carpets are available in sheet or in tiles, typically used in a commercial setting.  They have an extremely short pile and are gel backed. They are designed for durability not comfort and are typically only available in darker colours.
VINYL
Whether it’s sheet vinyl or luxury vinyl tiles, chosing vinyl for your floor guarantees a covering which provides durability, and of course, ease of cleaning. Whilst traditionally a floor covering widely used in kitchens and bathrooms with the advancement of new technology it no longer limits it to just those rooms.
LAMINATE
Laminate Flooring is made up of various layers that are fused together using a lamination process. Whilst similar to wood flooring with ease of care, it has a dramatically shorter life expectancy.
SAFETY
Safety flooring is vinyl with added grip.  It is used in areas where a non slip surface is required. Not usually used in a domestic setting but is becoming more popular in wet rooms designed for those vulnerable to slipping.
Accessories
UNDERLAY
Chosing the correct underlay could extend the life of your new carpet. The thickness required being dependant on foot traffic. Whereas underlay for for laminate & wood floors is essentially for insulation & sound proofing.
BEADING
Used when fitting wooden or laminate flooring, when it has not been possible to remove the skirting boards.  It leaves a finished look as it used to conceal the expansion gap required when installing that type of floor.
GRIPPER
You will require gripper if you have chosen a hessian backed carpet.  Used to anchor the carpet, it needs to be fitted around the perimeter of the floor space and have no gaps, or teeth missing.
STAIR RODS / DOOR BARS
Used at the meeting point of adjoining floorings, whether it be carpet to carpet or carpet to wood, a bar will leave a finished look. Are decorative bars which lie at the back to the tread, it is purely for decoration as the carpet will be anchored with gripper, but can make a stunning focal point on a stairwell.
Tips & Advice
MEASURING

Remember to start at the door check, as this can add as much as 200mm to the width of a room, not sure? Contact us, we can provide a full measuring service, free of charge.

FLOORING CUPBOARDS

Remember to measure to the back of it as you may not have enough off cuts from the room to cover it.

REPLACING UNDERLAY

It is a false truth that you do not have to replace aged underlay, as new underlay will most definitley prolong the life of a new carpet.

CLEANING

Keep spare pieces of your carpet and in the event of a spill you will be able to reduce dye transfer. remove excess spill with kitchen towel, then use a spare piece of carpet to clean.

BURNS / SPILLS

A small burn or spill does not necessarily mean a new carpet. Keep a spare piece and we may be able to patch the area.

CARPET OFF CUTS

Carpet off cuts can be turned into rugs, mats or even carpet runners with our onsite binding service.
